Debut novel

the lost son

What if you were lost and didn’t know it?

In the radiant perfection of the Golden City, Prince Jimmy is tasked with a mission that could change everything: find the King’s lost son. But when his journey leads him to the shadowy streets of Centerville, he’s thrown into a world of deception, addiction, power, and pain—a place where nothing is as it seems and everyone is searching for something.

As Jimmy ventures deeper into the heart of Centerville’s infamous Second Street, he encounters people desperate for meaning: Miranda, a street-smart pickpocket with a hardened past; John, a man battling amnesia and the haunting tug of destiny; and a host of lost souls trapped in the illusions of power and pleasure.

Meanwhile, a dark force offers an irresistible promise—everything you've ever wanted, at a cost you can’t imagine.

The Lost Son is a gripping tale of identity, redemption, and the invisible battles we all fight. With vibrant prose, unexpected humor, and characters who feel startlingly real, Michael Hillenmeyer weaves an unforgettable modern parable that asks: What are you willing to trade for freedom? And can you ever find your way home once you've been lost?

I have spent years in the tech industry helping to launch startups through a product lens. After years of writing user stories, I have turned my eye to writing fiction stories.

I love to see people thrive. This includes people knowing truths about themselves that can positively influence those around them.

Although I don’t love talking about myself, scroll down to see some of the things I love.

Some of my favorite…

Books

I love books. I will read anything. I mean anything. One of my wife’s favorite stories about me was our honeymoon when a line of women and I lined up on beach chairs reading the Twilight series. It’s probably not the most brilliant move to start my favorites by mentioning the Twilight series, but it was a fun read until the end (of which I didn’t care for the ending, but I think it’s because I’m not Meyer’s target audience… #teamJacob btw.)

I love good character development. You should cry during a book at some point because you care about the people you are reading about.

Although fiction books are my favorite, I switch back and forth between fiction and non-fiction. I firmly believe that our diets are more than what we eat. The content you put into your brain (whether reading, social media, or other) is just as impactful to your health as the food you put into your body. Therefore, we should have a healthy diet of the media we subscribe to.
